Dr Yves Kerdraon is a Sydney-based ophthalmologist who has subspecialty training in diseases of the cornea and complex cataract surgery. He has over 10 years’ experience in corneal transplantation, collagen crosslinking and cataract surgery.
Born in France, Dr Kerdraon completed his schooling in Australia, and his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1997. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists in 2006 after completing his ophthalmic surgical training through Sydney Eye Hospital. He supplemented his training with a Cornea Fellowship at the Bristol Eye Hospital, UK. Since then, he has practiced as a corneal, cataract and general ophthalmic surgeon. He has also worked as an ophthalmologist in the United Kingdom, Italy, Ecuador, Fiji and Burma.
Dr Kerdraon is experienced in various corneal transplantation techniques including PK, DALK, DSAEK, and particularly DMEK and DWEK/DSO, for conditions such as Fuchs’ Dystrophy. He regularly performs cataract surgery, and corneal collagen crosslinking procedures for keratoconus.
Dr Kerdraon is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and teaches microsurgery, cataract and corneal surgery to ophthalmology trainees. He is a co-ordinator for the Masters of Ophthalmic Sciences at the University of Sydney, and is involved in the education of junior doctors, medical students, nurses and orthoptists. Dr Kerdraon is involved in multiple research projects, including in diseases of the cornea such as Fuchs’ dystrophy of the cornea, keratoconus and HSV keratitis, having published in several peer-reviewed journals.
